This area was originally settled by homesteaders in the late 1800s, who were drawn to the area’s fertile soil and favorable climate. The first orchard was established in 1902, and soon after, other families began planting fruit trees and establishing farms. 

Today, Green Bluff is home to over 30 different farms and orchards, many of which have been owned by the same families for generations.

Things to Do in Green Bluff

This farmland is an excellent destination for outdoor enthusiasts, foodies, and anyone looking for a relaxing day trip. We could easily spend an entire day here exploring all there is to see. Visitors can spend the day picking apples, cherries, or other fruits in the orchards, or exploring the many farms and vineyards in the area.

In addition to fruit picking, Green Bluff offers a wide range of activities and events throughout the year. In the fall, visitors can enjoy hayrides, pumpkin patches, and corn mazes at many of the farms in the area. 

During the holiday season, visitors can enjoy cutting their own Christmas trees, taking a wreath-making workshop, sleigh rides through the snow,  and other festive events. 

For those who enjoy wine tasting as we do, this place is home to several excellent wineries, each with its own unique character and charm. Visitors can sample a variety of wines, including reds, whites, and fruit wines, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the surrounding countryside.

Foodies will also love Green Bluff, as many of the farms and orchards in the area offer fresh-picked produce to purchase, baked goods, and other tasty treats. Visitors can sample fresh berries, homemade jams and jellies, pies, and other delicious snacks.

Events in Green Bluff

Green Bluff hosts several annual events throughout the year, including the Cherry Festival in June, the Apple Festival in September, and our personal favorite, the Green Bluff Harvest Festival in November. 

These events feature live music, food and drink vendors, and activities for all ages, making them a great way to experience the best of what Green Bluff has to offer.

Other popular events in Green Bluff include the Lavender Festival, the Peach Festival, and the Hops and Hogs Festival, which celebrates local breweries and barbecues.

Our Favorite Event – The Harvest Festival

As someone who lives through this area’s sweltering summer temperatures, I must say that the autumn season is undoubtedly my favorite. There’s something so invigorating about the transition from scorching heat to the refreshing coolness of fall air. 

The changing leaves add a stunning burst of color to the surroundings, making every breath of crisp air all the more enjoyable. Honestly, this is my favorite time of year and I eagerly anticipate it with great enthusiasm.

The Greenbluff Harvest Festival is an annual celebration of the bounty of the fall season and a perfect end to the summer heat for us. The festival is a favorite among locals and visitors as well, offering a wide range of activities, autumn food, and entertainment to boot.

The festival takes place over several weekends in September and October, when the apples, pumpkins, and other crops are ripe for picking. Our family gets to enjoy the crisp autumn air while wandering through the orchards and vineyards enjoying the beautiful fall colors.

We can even choose to pick our own apples, pumpkins, and grapes, or sample the many homemade treats and fresh produce available for purchase.

The festival features a wide range of events and activities, including live music, hayrides, corn mazes, and pumpkin patches. There are also plenty of opportunities to sample local wines and ciders, as well as a variety of delicious food options, including barbecue, kettle corn, fresh-baked pies, and hot pumpkin mini donuts.

One of the highlights of the festival is the variety of contests and competitions that take place throughout the day. Visitors can try their hand at pumpkin carving, apple pie baking, or even participate in the hay bale throwing contest.

These activities add to the festive atmosphere of the event and provide fun for the whole family.

In addition to the many activities and events, the Greenbluff Harvest Festival is also an opportunity to learn about the history and culture of the area.

The pumpkin patch is among our most cherished elements of the festival. It presents us with a plethora of pumpkins and gourds to select from, which we can then utilize to infuse our house with an autumnal vibe or carve for Halloween. The patch also serves as an excellent setting for family photos and provides a delightful and engaging experience for us, our kids, and our extended family.

Overall, the Greenbluff Harvest Festival is a cherished event for our family that celebrates the best that the fall season in Spokane has to offer. It provides us and all visitors with a chance to connect with the land and the people who cultivate it, while also enjoying a fun and festive atmosphere.

Getting to Green Bluff

Green Bluff is located just a short drive from Spokane, Washington, making it an easy day trip destination. Visitors can take Highway 2 north from Spokane to Green Bluff Road, which leads directly into the heart of the agricultural area.
