After nearly 20 hours of flying, Amy and I were exhausted.  During our recent trip to Scotland, we found an excellent hotel location to recoup in downtown Edinburgh.

As first-time visitors to this amazing country, we were excited to explore all that it had to offer, and having a central location encouraged us to step out and see this glorious city! The history, the beauty…but where do we start?

Thankfully, we live in the age of information and turned to the internet for help. That’s when we discovered GetYourGuide, an app that allows travelers to easily plan and book various activities, tours, and experiences in destinations right from their device, not only in Scotland but around the world.

GetYourGuide is a site for tour guide companies to display their offerings, which makes it so convenient for tourists to view a wide range of things to do all in one app.

With a user-friendly interface that can be downloaded on both iOS and Android devices, it made planning our Scottish adventures a breeze. For those that prefer, they have a website too, but for this article, we will be focused on the app.

GetYourGuide provides a wide range of activities and tours to cater to various types of travelers, including walking tours, and thrilling outdoor adventures such as rafting and zip-lining.

In addition, we came across several intriguing themed tours, such as Harry Potter, Outlander, and haunted places tours, available throughout the country of Scotland.  Also available were some of our favorites with food, drink, and history!

Users can easily search for activities by location, date, and type. We simply typed in the city and instantly had dozens of ideas to choose from.

The app offers detailed descriptions to help users choose activities that match their preferences. Listings also feature descriptions, photos, and customer reviews.

How It Works

Booking an activity on GetYourGuide is also a seamless process. Users simply select the city or activity they are interested in, choose the date and time they would like to book, and enter their payment information.

Once the booking is complete, users receive a confirmation email with all of the details they need to know about their activity, including where to meet their guide and what to bring with them.

Note: be sure to download or screenshot the details and tickets if you will be in an area without wifi or data at the meet-up point.

One of the most unique features of GetYourGuide is the ability to book skip-the-line tickets for popular attractions. It allows users to bypass long lines and crowds and often includes special access to certain areas of the attraction.

While we didn’t use this feature, this can be a major time-saver, especially for travelers visiting popular destinations during peak tourist season.

Another standout feature of GetYourGuide is the ability to book private tours and experiences. This is a great option for travelers who want a more personalized experience or who are traveling with a large group.

For history lovers, private tours or small group tours are a must!  We learned so much more history than what we had studied in literature prior to arriving.  The tidbits and intrigue set a totally different atmosphere than we were expecting.

Private tours can often be customized to include specific activities or locations and can provide a more intimate and immersive experience.

We used the app to book a guided group tour of Edinburgh Castle, a whiskey-tasting tour, and a guided tour in Inverness. It was quick and easy with everything being done on our phones and through emails.

That being said, there are a few drawbacks to the app that users should be aware of. First, some activities may not be available in certain locations or on certain dates, so users may need to be flexible with their plans.

Book ahead can ensure you get the dates that work best. We did it last minute and we were lucky it worked out!

Additionally, prices for activities can vary widely, so it’s wise if users to compare prices across different providers to ensure they are getting the best deal.

We’ll be Using This Again

To sum up, GetYourGuide is an excellent choice for travelers who want to organize and reserve activities and experiences while on the move.

It was so convenient to have digital tickets accessible on our phones without printing anything. This scores high for ease of use and efficiency.

Offering a diverse selection of tours and experiences in destinations worldwide, along with comprehensive descriptions and feedback, and a hassle-free booking system, this app will undoubtedly enhance your travel experience and create lasting memories.

Our personal experience confirms it! We’d booked three separate tours for the next few days within an hour of discovering this app.

We were most impressed by the vast range of activities and tours offered in one spot by GetYourGuide. With so many options to choose from, it’s nearly impossible not to find something that suits your interests.

Additionally, the simplicity and convenience of the booking process, the high quality of the experiences provided, and the expertise and helpfulness of the tour guide all served as significant factors in our choice to use GetYourGuide again in the future.
